Challenge?
OTTO B.V. was faced with the challenge of migrating its online stores OTTO.nl and LASCANA.nl to a modern and future-proof e-commerce platform, as the existing solution had significant limitations in terms of flexibility for live orders and customizations. The integration of specific Dutch payment providers and fraud prevention systems in the checkout was therefore a complex task, if not the biggest challenge. In addition, the various teams and the training of new colleagues from OTTO B.V. in the new processes had to be coordinated. To ensure a smooth transition, they had to be familiarized with the new systems and processes quickly and efficiently.

How did the project go?
The migration project began in May 2024 and lasted around 7 months. The collaboration between OTTO B.V. and empiriecom was intensive and involved several phases: After the project kick-off, infrastructure was set up and the standard store, consisting of the CMS, the product search, the web frontend and the apps, was established. The checkout, product data and Dutch specifics were then integrated. The final tuning included tracking, SEO tools and the connection of an email marketing system. The go-live preparations in January 2025 included monitoring, availability monitoring and traffic management. The successful go-live for LASCANA.nl took place on January 29, followed by OTTO.nl, including the apps, on February 4.

Results for customers?
The migration to the empiriecom commerce suite brought significant improvements for the online stores of OTTO.nl and LASCANA.nl. Accessibility and performance scores were significantly increased, leading to an increase in the conversion rate in the LASCANA app of around 22%. The checkout conversion rate increased by 21%, while the exit rate decreased by 33%. This is mainly because customers benefit from an improved user experience thanks to faster loading times and optimized usability. The flexible and comprehensive search function and improved filter functionality offer users an optimized product selection. In addition, the new platform makes it possible to make live orders at any time, which significantly increases the stores' adaptability and speed of response. These successes show how empiriecom has significantly optimized the performance, flexibility and user experience of online stores in the Netherlands through innovative solutions and close cooperation with OTTO B.V.
