Four days full of impressions, ideas and Viennese flair From October 14 to 17, we - Team Inspire - were at DrupalCon Europe in Vienna. For four days, everything revolved around Drupal, digital innovations and the people who continue to develop the open source CMS. With us: Julian, Christian, Sascha and Daniel. Our goal: to discover new trends, gather inspiration - and of course lots of nerd talk.
Reading time: 2 minutes
It was already clear after the first day: DrupalCon is not just a developer conference. It brings together different perspectives, technologies and ideas - and provides plenty of inspiration.
We took away many exciting topics - from front-end approaches with Tailwind CSS to new layout ideas around Drupal Canvas and strategic sessions that were also interesting beyond the code.
One highlight was the talk "Strategies for Integrating Drupal Canvas in Your Existing Drupal Platform" - an exciting outlook on how layout work in Drupal could become even more intuitive in the future.
AI agents in Drupal DevOps processes were also a topic: for example, the presentation "Building an AI-Powered DevOps Co-Pilot for Drupal", which showed how AI can already simplify routine tasks such as Git, Drush or deployments.
And of course, AI was everywhere anyway. We found the presentation by "our" agency 1xInternet remarkable: "Drupal AI - Strategy and Application". Here it became clear how many concrete projects already exist - and how much artificial intelligence can already be part of the Drupal world.
Another highlight was the large panel "The Web in 2035: A Keynote Panel on the Future of the Web". The focus was on the question: "What will the web look like in 10 years? Will it be open, fair, and sustainable - or fragmented, automated, and opaque?"
One comment from Sebastian Bergmann (Creator of PHPUnit and advocate of sustainable software practices in the PHP ecosystem) particularly stuck with us. Half joking, half warning, he said: "We know cookie banners today, but maybe tomorrow we'll have to agree or disagree with AI content. It will be exciting to see what remains of some websites."
The location - the modern Conference Center Vienna - was great: lots of space, short distances and really good organization.
The DrupalCon app gave us an overview of which sessions were running at any given time. This was also necessary, as there were often several exciting presentations taking place at the same time - sometimes too many, sometimes too few. Fortunately, most of the talks were recorded and can be watched again later.(DrupalCon Vienna 2025)
The only downside was the coffee. It was only available during the two(!) official breaks - and they were simply too short.
In the evening, we went out into the city. We explored Vienna a bit, visited the Prater park right in front of our hotel and let the days come to a leisurely end. A nice contrast to the intensive conference days.
Three days, many talks, new ideas - DrupalCon Vienna showed us how diverse the Drupal community is and that Drupal does not stand still technically, but continues to evolve with other web technologies.
