Who are the working students at empiriecom, really? They come from a variety of academic backgrounds and bring their own interests and experiences to the table. That makes them an important part of our team. What they’re studying, what they work on at empiriecom, and what they do outside of school are just as varied as the paths that led them to us. So, let’s get to know them a little better!
Reading time: 2.5 minutes
Basti has been with us for over four years. The 28-year-old is studying medicine in Erlangen and has developed a pretty cool study routine on the side: During his “Learn Runs,” he goes jogging with a friend and reviews his material while he runs. Studying and exercising at the same time? Basti highly recommends it!
He works in qualitative research and manages the BAUR Community. This includes surveys, interviews, and analyzing the results.
He especially enjoys looking back on the evolution of the former customer blog into the BAUR Community. He was there from the very beginning and was able to contribute his own ideas. Today, the community is an integral part of his responsibilities, and Basti is quite proud of that.
After more than four years, it’s above all the flexibility, trust, and autonomy that he values most about his work.
A lot of things are new to Valentina right now. She’s pursuing a master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction in Siegen and has been working as a student intern in the Quantitative UX Research department since mid-July.
Until now, her focus has been on qualitative research. Now she’s learning quantitative methods and gaining her first experiences in e-commerce. She’s able to apply her existing knowledge directly while familiarizing herself with new topics.
As an international student, there’s an added bonus: her German is improving naturally as part of her daily work routine.
Although she hasn’t been here long, she quickly felt at home in the team. It’s still a bit early to talk about a major personal highlight, though - she simply hasn’t been here long enough for that. But she’s already really looking forward to the coming months and the tasks ahead!
“At first, I was pretty shy.”
That has changed significantly for Milana since then. The 24-year-old is studying animation and game design in Darmstadt and supports the UXD team in further developing the design of our online stores.
It was especially the people on the team who made it easier for her to get started. Her colleagues are patient, helpful, and take the time to answer her questions. As a result, Milana has gradually started to try out new things and contribute her own ideas.
Over the past few months, she’s learned a lot - from UX and UI to teamwork. As an international student, she’s also improving her German in her day-to-day work.
She especially enjoys being able to show others her work. Even if not everything is perfect yet, she can see how far she’s come on her own.
Fasih is 29, studies computer science in Brandenburg, and has been part of the development team for about four years now.
His day-to-day work revolves primarily around software development. He especially enjoys working on projects where different teams collaborate. Then it’s not just about his own task, but also about exchanging ideas with others and finding a solution together.
What he likes about this is that you don’t have to know everything right from the start. If he lacks prior knowledge on a topic, he can familiarize himself with it, try things out, and gradually take on more responsibility. Over time, this has helped him gain more confidence in his tasks and has also encouraged him to tackle new topics.
And after about four years, of course, there are also the things that have nothing to do with software development: Fasih wouldn’t want to miss the company parties.
Test, test, and test again - that’s probably the best way to describe Milana’s day-to-day work.
Since June 2026, the 29-year-old has been supporting our app team in the Quality Assurance department. At the same time, she’s pursuing a master’s degree in Life Science Informatics in Deggendorf.
At empiriecom, she manages our mobile apps for iOS and Android. She tests new features, tries out different scenarios and devices, and keeps an eye out for bugs that are easy to overlook. It’s precisely the wide variety of devices and operating systems that makes this field so exciting for her.
For Milana, however, there’s more to it than just finding technical bugs. She considers how users will experience the app later on and where problems might still arise in everyday use.
She quickly felt at home on the team. She can ask questions, familiarize herself with new topics, and contribute her existing knowledge.
Before Moaz came to Germany, he worked as a software engineer for about three years. So software development isn’t entirely new to the 27-year-old.
Today, he’s pursuing a master’s degree in data science in Marburg and works as a student employee on the search team. There, his responsibilities include front-end development, bug fixes, and testing.
What Moaz appreciates most about his work at empiriecom is the flexibility. The ability to work remotely from Marburg allows him to balance his studies and job well. At the same time, he’s working on a real e-commerce platform and sees how his work will later be used by many people.
He feels right at home on the Search Team. His colleagues support him and are happy to share their knowledge with him. One project he looks back on fondly is setting up Storybook testing and the CI pipeline. Through this, he was able to learn more about software quality and automation and work with his team to implement the solution.
Before her first office job, Dilara was a bit intimidated by the “corporate world.” That made it all the more wonderful for her to experience just how open and friendly the teams at empiriecom are.
The 25-year-old is studying computer science in Brandenburg, is currently writing her bachelor’s thesis, and has been working with us as a student employee since last November.
She joined empiriecom through her classmate Fasih. The two of them completed their required internship with us together. Today, Dilara works on the Core Team and helps develop the Configuration Center.
Dilara was particularly pleased that a feature she had helped develop during her internship was actually put to use later on. It allows customers to customize the colors in their online store themselves.
In addition to the technical aspects, the work has contributed greatly to her personal development. She has learned to tackle new topics on her own, solve problems independently, and take on responsibility. Today, she is more self-assured and has greater confidence in her abilities.
Interviews have become a natural part of Sophia’s daily work routine. The 22-year-old is pursuing a master’s degree in marketing management in Nuremberg and has been working as a student intern in the marketing department since May 2026. She prepares interviews for our articles and conducts them herself. This allows her to engage with a wide variety of people within the company and continually discover new areas and perspectives.
Her day-to-day work is varied: she contributes to social media content, blog posts, and campaigns, and is able to bring her own ideas to the table. She’s also able to apply what she’s learned in her studies directly while gaining a lot of practical experience at the same time.
Her highlight so far has been the summer party. While eating, playing games, and chatting together, Sophia had the opportunity to get to know many colleagues and see the team outside of the daily work routine. For her, it was a wonderful opportunity to get to know the people behind the various departments from a different perspective.
From medicine to computer science and marketing to animation and data science, our working students cover a wide range of fields.
And it’s these diverse backgrounds that make our team what it is.
It’s great to have you all on board!
