How an apprentice project became an app feature
Does this sound familiar? You're browsing through a shopping app and suddenly you come across an item you really like. But you don't want to buy it right away, so you take a screenshot to save it for later.
Our new app feature addresses this everyday user flow. That’s because a screenshot can be more than just a picture in the gallery: When users want to save an ad this way, a bottom sheet automatically opens with the most important product information. From there, the item can be shared directly via a link or added to a wish list - without having to search or scroll again.
The idea behind it is simple: The fewer steps there are between taking a screenshot and making a purchase, the easier the rest of the shopping process becomes.
The idea originally emerged as part of a trainee’s final thesis at BAUR. The project explored how to simplify the path from a screenshot back to the product.
Working with various teams, the idea was further developed, and key questions regarding the appropriate UX design, integration into the app, and tracking were addressed before a concrete feature request was formulated.
The feature is already available for iOS and Android. Through tracking, we’re monitoring how it’s being received and what insights we can gain to create an even better user experience.
What makes this story so special to us is that an idea that originated as part of a trainee project has become a real feature that’s now available to our customers and makes the shopping process even easier and more convenient.
