Wero at BAUR: The new payment method continues to evolve

For some time now, BAUR customers have been able to pay with Wero. This European payment method is used for paying invoices and outstanding balances. But we’re not stopping there. With Wero, we’re expanding our e-commerce solution to include an additional payment option. Customers can use it to make their payments easily and conveniently. At the same time, we are committed to a European solution that can help further develop payment transactions in Europe and strengthen digital sovereignty. In the future, Wero will also be available directly when shopping at BAUR. With the upcoming changes next year, the payment method will be integrated directly into the ordering process. Wero is evolving step by step at BAUR - from its initial applications to becoming an integral part of the digital shopping experience.

baur.de reaches top 10 position of the most accessible online stores in Europe!

In the QualiBooth study "State of European eCommerce Accessibility 2025", baur.de scored 95 points, making it one of the top 10 most accessible online stores in Europe and one of the leading German e-commerce sites in terms of accessibility. For us at empiriecom, this result is above all the result of continuous teamwork. Over the course of two years, we have worked together to design our clients' stores in such a way that they can be used by all users - not only for regulatory reasons, but so that no one is excluded from online shopping. Accessibility is the result of the interaction of many disciplines: UX research, UX design and development. Accessible solutions were designed and technically implemented in accordance with WCAG standards. The usability tests with people with disabilities that our UX research team carried out with the support of Pfennigparade in Munich were particularly valuable. These perspectives provide insights that automated tests and scores alone cannot provide and are an essential addition. Even though 95 points is a strong result, we do not see accessibility as a completed task. It is part of our daily business and is continuously being developed. Accessibility & user intentions: UX exchange for better online shopping!

Our regular exchange with our colleagues from witt-group on November 17th once again provided fresh food for thought and plenty of inspiration! Both sides brought exciting topics to the table, such as accessibility and user motivation when entering the store, as well as the question of how we can better understand and serve the different user intentions, such as targeted searching or relaxed browsing. Particularly cool: Aileen and Paula presented the Uselab on accessibility in the baur.de store. Our user researchers traveled to Pfennigparade in Munich for this Uselab. We also considered how the expertise of Baur's representative body for severely disabled employees could be optimally integrated into the processes. A real win for empiriecom and witt-group! A look at the tools was also exciting: empiriecom recently started using the mousetracking tool Microsoft Clarity (free of charge!), while witt-group relies on Content Square.
And last but not least: Figma updates, insights into the "Best Practice Club" and an exchange of experiences about the lived testing culture were of course not to be missed. UX KPIs? They'll be on the agenda next time and we're already looking forward to it!
Also present were: Sarah, Marlena, Aaron, Fanny and Katrin from witt-group and Nik, Aileen, Lucie, Martin, Paula, Lena, Samantha and Clara from empiriecom.

Watch webinar recording | #BetterECommerce: Best Practice Otto Austria Group - Optimal performance with the empiriecom commerce suite & GK AIR Personalization

How can e-commerce customers be provided with truly relevant product recommendations? This is exactly what our LIVE webinar on 14 October 2025 was all about. Together with our reference customer Otto Austria Group, we showed how optimized personalization in online stores makes the decisive difference - from the technological basis to successful implementation in live operations. In a discussion with Lukas Maier from the Otto Austria Group, we also provided exclusive insights into the personalization strategy. These practical perspectives were complemented by the expertise of our partners: In combination with the empiriecom commerce suite and GK AIR Personalization, it becomes clear how a high-performance onsite journey is created that addresses customers individually and optimally exploits conversion potential. Expert Markus Elbers from GK AIR showed the technological possibilities of personalization, while Jan Lippert from nexum presented the successful integration of the project. Diary study: Real user experiences in the BAUR app

Our user researchers Paula and Aileen recently conducted a diary study with 17 participants in the BAUR Shopping app - the first of its kind for some time. The aim was to gain deeper insights into app usage and understand how users find their way around it. A traditional usability test would not have been able to provide all the desired information. Communication with the participants was straightforward via WhatsApp broadcast - a communication option that was easy to implement and cost-effective to use after clarifying data protection aspects. Recruitment was carried out via push notifications in the app and a survey to ensure that the participants used WhatsApp, agreed to be contacted and basically met the criteria for participation (e.g. affinity for online shopping, frequent use of the app, etc.). The feedback on the study itself was consistently positive. For example, the participants praised the inviting recommendations on the homepage and the good handling as well as the many options of the filter function in the product list. The authenticity of the shopping situations in which the customers found themselves, which is not available in this form in other test environments, was particularly valuable. This allowed them to answer the questions when and where they wanted, for example at home on the sofa or on the move. The diary study thus provided important insights into the actual use of the BAUR app and showed how valuable this method is.

Adyen: A further component of our digital payment processing!

Adyen is a service provider and an integral part of our payment ecosystem offering. Although our customers do not interact directly with Adyen, this service provider manages central processes for our online stores in the background. Adyen's role and added value: Efficient processing: Adyen handles the technical communication with credit card companies and payment services such as PayPal and ensures that transactions are processed securely and quickly. For our customers, the payment process remains seamless and familiar. Diversity through integration: Adyen gives us access to a wide range of global payment methods via a single technical connection. This significantly reduces our internal integration effort. Future-proof: Adyen's rapid implementation of new payment methods (e.g. biometrics in the apps) means that our stores are always technologically up to date, without complex internal effort. Successful knowledge transfer: Originally used by Otto NL, the Adyen integration was standardized for the BAUR Group by empiriecom. This means that other Group stores can use this service flexibly. Adyen is a further component of our payment infrastructure that contributes significantly to secure and diverse payment options in our stores.

BabyOne optimizes online store with new empiriecom search

BabyOne recently completely revamped its online store and migrated to a new version. As part of these changes, the search function was also reorganized. BabyOne chose empiriecom as the provider for the optimal product. A particularly convincing argument for the empiriecom search was the business rule engine, which makes it possible to rank product lists and search results specifically according to individual KPIs such as profitability or brand priority. The many setting options in the search back office, such as self-learning filters and other filter configurations, are further convincing highlights. With the empiriecom search, BabyOne gets a complete response of all products for product lists and search results, which they can render and display efficiently and easily in their logicless frontend. empiriecom also provided a preconfigured admin panel including stop words. Thanks to a close and intensive exchange, the implementation went smoothly and BabyOne is taking the shopping experience to the next level with the new search and is focusing on maximum flexibility and user-friendliness.

By using our empiriecom commerce suite, we provide shopping apps within the platform in addition to the web store - all included in the price of the suite. As a result, lascana.at and lascana.ch now also have the option of offering their products in both an Android and an iOS app. With the introduction of the shopping app through the Commerce Suite, LASCANA gains a number of advantages. empiriecom and LARS NYSØM: A joint project for target group profiling

In an exciting project, empiriecom and the LARS NYSØM brand worked together to develop a better understanding of the brand's target group and optimise brand communication. The starting point was the challenge that Amazon, as the main sales channel, provides little data on shoppers.

To change this, a population-representative panel was used. Various groups were identified using targeted questions that shed light on the participants' values and lifestyle. These clusters were then further refined using factor and cluster analyses to find out how differently the target groups react to the LARS NYSØM brand and what associations the brand evokes in potential customers.

Two very different target groups emerged: a more material-orientated group and an experience-orientated group. To better understand these segments, demographic data and values were added to create comprehensive personas that can serve as a basis for future marketing strategies.

‘The project was an important step for LARS NYSØM to better understand our target groups and strategically optimise future brand communication,’ say Sebastian Fritz and Patrick Fischer, founders of LARS NYSØM.

empiriecom visits the droidcon 2024

droidcon Berlin 2024 was just around the corner again! From 3 to 5 July, the CityCube Berlin was transformed into the hotspot for Android developers from all over the world. For three days, there were exciting presentations, practical workshops and cool codelabs - topics such as Jetpack Compose, Android Automotive, AI/ML, testing and accessibility were just some of the highlights. Especially cool: With the droidcon ticket, you could also attend the FlutterCon talks and further deepen your own knowledge. It was the perfect opportunity to learn new things, exchange ideas and meet up with old colleagues from Android and Flutter development. All in all, droidcon Berlin 2024 was an incredibly informative and rewarding experience, our empiriecom colleagues Nils, Simeon and Slobodan agree!

Why our app solution transforms your shopping experience: Insights from the baur.community

As part of a survey by the baur.community, consisting of around 25 baur.de customers, whose participants regularly answer topic-related questions about baur.de, the baur.de shopping app developed by empiriecom was recently scrutinised more closely.
The BAUR app impresses with its ease of use and clear design. It makes it easy and convenient to shop from anywhere. Many customers like to use the app to browse and then take a closer look at the selected products on their laptop before buying them. A big advantage is the permanent login, which allows constant access to the watch list and shopping basket. Payment and delivery information can be viewed at any time. The app is also appreciated for its exclusive discounts.
In an exemplary evaluation, the app received an average score of 1.7. The search function and navigation, which make it easier to find suitable items quickly, were particularly emphasised. The permanent login as well as the wish list and the "My Account" area, in which payment and delivery information is clearly displayed, were also rated positively.
Another major advantage of the app is that it can be used from anywhere without having to boot up the PC or open the browser. Compared to the mobile view of the web shop, the app is clearer and easier to use. The permanent login and the fixed "Add to basket" button, which remains clickable even after scrolling, were perceived as particularly practical. The exclusive app discounts round off the positive image of the Baur app.

Insights into the JavaScript Days: Do we still need frameworks?

Our FullStack Dev was at the JavaScript Days and reports on a broad spectrum of workshops ranging from the basics to highly complex topics. One of the most heated debates revolved around the question of whether we still need frameworks at all. The answer that the native browser can already do a lot with HTML/CSS/JS - often even better - got some lecturers thinking. Performance and accessibility were also important topics. The deep dive into the topic of "server-side rendering", which is already used extensively at empiriecom, was particularly exciting. Our developer's personal highlight? The surprise at what the browser can do without frameworks and additional effort. This insight will be valuable for his daily business.

Workshop alert: strengthening the "Shuttle system technology" team

Recently, our coaches Melli and Marcel led a 2-day workshop for the "Anlagentechnik Shuttle" team in Bad Staffelstein/Schwabthal. This team was formed for the launch of a pioneering shuttle warehouse in Altenkunstadt, which will revolutionize the logistics of the BAUR Group, especially for About You. The aim was to encourage open communication and collaboration between team members to ensure a smooth start to the project. An atmosphere of courage and transparency was created through discussions about goals, agenda and potential challenges. For Melli and Marcel, this workshop provided valuable insights into a new working environment while reinforcing their commitment to continuous coaching development. Best wishes to the "Anlagentechnik Shuttle" team for a successful start!

code.talks 2023: AI in the spotlight

This year's code.talks were all about artificial intelligence (AI). Numerous captivating presentations offered interesting insights into this topic. Particularly noteworthy were the findings from the "Architecture" and "Cloud & Infrastructure" tracks, which confirmed our cloud architecture of the empiriecom commerce suite. This shows that we are on the right track technologically. Another highlight was a presentation in the "Tech Leadership" track, which supported our decision to introduce lead developers. The topic of specialist careers was also discussed. The code.talks once again provided valuable impetus, but also showed that we are on top of the trends with our tech stack and are at the forefront of technology.
